Complete Dentistry and Teamwork

Dr. Neeraj Khanna is more than a dentist. He is a partner in his patients health care. He is concerned not just about the health of the teeth, but about the overall health and wellness of his patients. Sometimes this leads him to involve other specialists or physicians to carry out a treatment plan for a patient.

In addition to his Geneva dental practice, Dr. Khanna is a faculty member for The Dawson Academy where he teaches the principles of Complete Dentistry. Here is an excerpt from article he wrote for The Dawson Academy called The Big Win: Interdisciplinary Teams:

One of the greatest rewards about practicing “complete dentistry” is that we have the ability to take “complete” control of our patient’s care from start to finish. Complete dentistry requires us to examine our patient’s masticatory system as a functioning unit. This is much like a quarterback who looks at the entire field before making the right play for his/her team.

There are times our comprehensive approach to patient care may involve other “team” members such as an Orthodontist, Oral Surgeon, or a Periodontist. These specialists become part of the “team” that enables us to reach the “end zone” for our patients. In order to get there, the complete dentist needs to act as quarterback on behalf of his or her patient.

Like most successful quarterbacks, their ability to communicate with their teammates is what separates great teams from average ones. We are no different. Our ability to communicate to our specialists is what separates great practices from average ones.

A Patient’s Experience

When Dr. Khanna suggested that I might be a good candidate for implants, I was skeptical and a bit afraid of the unknown. However, I felt very strongly that I did not want to wear dentures, and I had no other options.

Dr. Khanna was very understanding, and he referred me to Dr. Noruzi. Dr. Noruzi and his staff were very friendly and supportive, and they did an excellent job of explaining the implant process. They encouraged me to proceed and expressed confidence that I would be extremely happy with the results.

During the entire process, there was excellent interaction and cooperation between Dr. Noruzi’s staff/office and Dr. Khanna’s office/staff. Because of that, I felt like a member of a team that was fixed on the same goal.

Dr. Khanna, who is a “perfectionist” worked closely with me and the technicians that built the implants to ensure that the colors and sized matched.

The end result was a perfect restoration of my teeth and the return of my SMILE. My thanks to everyone involved in the process. Great job!!
